Universal Tongues (VIS-004)
The three members of Universal Tongues, DJ Fran, Darron Jalbert
and Eric Jalbert, have been producing tracks together since 1995
and have released several records for labels such as Biscuithead
and Ritual. Hailing from Boston, all three members are pioneers
in the new Boston house scene. Fran can be heard every Friday at
the legendary party Life, a night that many consider to be
the best deep house event in the US.
With their "Silver Bridge EP" (VIS-004) they add some deep tech-house
flavor to Vista's young music catalog. The influences of luminaries
such as Carl Craig and Chez Damier are very evident here. No doubt,
Boston is the place to be right now.
MM | Blues & Soul Issue 851 | August 2001
Boston's finest deep house producers and pioneers Universal Tongues
have been producing for over 6 years and this is yet another quality
deep house excursion. The Silver Bridge EP opens with "718" which
was no doubt inspired by Carl Craig and Chez Damier. Throbbing at
a relaxed 125 bpm, this is deep house heaven. Musically and intelligently
diverse, "718's" nominal soundscape is an atmospheric gem that
caresses and loosens the joints. The b-side has "Get Me Going" which
is slightly more uptempo boosted by the warm keys and gratifying
electronically distorted distant voices. Finally "Love That I Could
Have", creates a darker vibe - this time with added tech-house licks
yet retains its funky feel.
