Gene Farris- Decompression EP (Vista-017)
Gene Farris finally gets to release for hometown label, Vista. "Ashaka" combines funky stabbing keys, snaking bassline, driving beats, and a risqué female vocal on a quality peaktime floor-mover. Miguel Migs lays down a superb dub take next, utilizing great shuffling beats alongside the original synths and vocal, while the bassline ups the tempo a little and swirling effects are added. Dallas-based producer Demarkus Lewis is the rising star that everybody is talking about at the moment. His eclectic, edgy sound has a soulful quality not found in many of today’s records. After suberb outings on labels like Amenti, Nordic Trax and Aesoteric, Demarkus breaks wide open with this fantastic Vista debut. JT Donaldson can do no wrong in the house world at the moment, and he keeps his success streak intact here with a new release for Vista "Vanguard Nights" sees JT showing his love of old school house, with this very Chitown outing jackin the beats, stabbing the synths, and letting that deep and dubby bassline work its magic in fine style, while spacey effects swirl in and out of the mix before a jazzy drop of drums, stand-up bass and horns takes the track off to higher ground. Tougher than his usual gear, but then that s what makes Donaldson a cut above. Pete Hecher-Funkdafied EP (VIS-014)
Written and produced by Pete Hecher, veteran of such labels as Nordic Trax and the sadly-defunct Afterhours, with 3 new cuts on this new 12" from Vista. "Blast Off" is an uptempo groover, with a rich, dubbed out bassline leading the way, with crisp beats, melodic keys, and bright synth stabs, making this perfect for the late night floor movers and shakers. On the flip, Hecher pays tribute to Mr Moroder on "Respect 2 Giorgio", with it s analog synths sweeps and driving bassline groove instantly evoking memories of tracks like "Don t You Want Me" and "I Feel Love". Last up is "Funkdafied", a subtly deep cut that works the Metro Area angle superbly, with it s electro flavors combining effortlessly with it s deep house backdrop.

Fries and Bridges - 3 AM EP (VIS-007)
West Coast house with a French twist...
The union of two people, continents apart, could be considered fate. In the case of Fries and Bridges , this may certainly be true. The story goes as such.... San Francisco's prodigy Hector Moralez was playing at the legendary Rex club in Paris in October of 2000, and Phil Weeks happened to be out that particular night. Thus began a beautiful friendship, and a synthesis in the recording studio. Hector went back out to Paris in spring of 2001, and they finished several tracks. The buzz, both in Paris and in the Bay Area, inspired them to go as the duo, Fries and Bridges. Their initial release on the prestigious MFF (Music for Freaks) label has put them in the spotlight with djs like Derrick Carter, Diz and Halo all touting this new dynamic duo as ones to watch in 2002.
